Family Services

KWY Family services

KWY assists Aboriginal families with child protection and domestic violence concerns. The safety of women and children is at the heart of everything we do. We aim to improve the safety of women and children by providing specialist knowledge and culturally appropriate services to break the cycle of domestic violence and stem the flow of Aboriginal children into the child protection systems across Australia.

KWY Family programs

KWY and our staff have integrated trauma-informed services for children using a blend of traditional cultural activities and contemporary methodologies.

    • For women:  Our Spirit, Our Culture, Women’s healing program;  KWY specialist women’s workers offer a culturally safe place to explore the complex issues of their personal trauma; individual yarning sessions, women’s gatherings, strengths-based group work; court support, financial counselling; access to our specialist domestic and family violence women’s workers.
    • For children (2-12 years): Children’s adapted Our Spirit, Our Culture children’s program and individual therapeutic trauma counselling that is art/ narrative/ play-based. Culturally based group activities and yarning sessions that through various mediums, give children access to traditional stories that identify many of our Aboriginal values such as care, respect, family, community and trust.
